The rate of school tax for the year 1884 was fixed at six mills by the School Board. Four and a half mills will be used for school purposes and the re mainder for building. George H. Lessig, of this bor ough, has just received a let ter from his son, Owen J. Les sig, who enlisted in the regu lar army two years ago. The younger Lessig is stationed near Silver City, New Mexico. J. J. H. Bassett, superin tendent of the Pottstown Gas company, is engaged in put ting up three new borough lamps, one at the corner of Chestnut and Penn streets, one on Penn between High and King, and one on High be tween Washington and Warren. The Ledger said: “They are the latest New York style of lan terns, with galvanized top, and much better than the old ones now in use in town.”
