Speedway Program for Fourth of July, Completed by Col onel Sellers, Includes 50- Mile Sweepstakes Feature. Purses offered by the Automobile Trades association for the Fourth of July races total $1,500, according to the program, announced last night by 4761, 2). K. B. Sellers, marines. The greater part will be hunk up as prizes for the sweepstakes, the mi'ni event of the day. The purse on the in race will be sin(3S0) to the winner and $200 to the ca* fine hing second. ‘The sweepstakes will be the merest, and probably the fastest, race ever attempted here. The distances will be fifty miles—that is fifty laps on the rile speedway owned by the awestete jion--and the management, accord ing to Colonel Sellers, has already started advertising to interest the best drivers in the southwest, and also those of national reputation in the event. He confidently expects that the purse will attract entrants that can give an exhibition lke a series of circular flashes. The entrance fee is $50. The card includes three other events. One will be limited to Fords, one for motorcycles and the other will be a free-for-all race. The motorcyclists will run fifteen miles for a purce of $160--$75 for the winner and $24 for second place. The entrance fee is $1 . The Ford event will be something new. The drivers will be required personally to register every lap they cover, bringing their cars to a stop for that purposes. After registering they will have to crank their cars for the next lap. Colonel Sellers be ieved the plan would give the drivers a lot of muscular exercise after the engines had gotten hot. The pilots must be expert crankers as well as drivers to hope to finish in the money The distance is ten miles, which means ten stops. The winning Ford will draw $75 and that finishing next, $25. The free-for-all, as the name indi cates, will be open to any body ex cept, however, that the drivers who capture the prizes in the sweepstakes will not be allowed to compete in the event.
