a Good Man Gone.John Ely was born Feb. 14, 1824, inKnox County, Ohio, and died at hiahome in Eldora on Monday, June 11,1908, aged 82 years, 3 mouths and 25 days.On March 2, 1854, he became married to Rachael Braddock. There were two children born to this union— Mrs. Lora Rowen and William B., who died in infancy.Mr. Ely and wife came .to Iowa and Hardin County in an early day and settled on a farm southwest of Eldora, where they resided until a few years ago, when they moved to this city to spend the remainder of their days.John Ely was well and favorably known over this section of the county and he was a man respected by everybody who knew him. He was a democrat of the old school—loved truth and simplicity and the nobler virtuesof the human heart. His name ever stood as a badge of honor in the community, and now that his eyes are closed in that long last sleep, those who knew him best will miss him most.The funeral services were held from the Christian church on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. O’Connor officiating.
