Below we give the report of the organization of the Presbyterian church here, of which he speaks:UM a meeting of the Inhabitants in the North part of the Town of Mexico in the County of Oswego held at the academy in the Village of Mexico on the Fifth day of May, A. D. 1829, agreeable to public notice according to law, for the purpose of organizing a Presbyterian Society, Beacons Ephraim Gates and Ja* bin Wood acted as Moderators, Win. S. Fitch was chosen Clerk. Voted that we form a Society w hich shall be kno wn and \ Called by the name of the First Presbyterian Society in the Town of Mexico. Voted that We choose Nine Trustees. On Balloting the following persons were chosen trustees: Ephraim Gates, Nathaniel Butler. Warner Mitchell* Wm. Goit, Asa Beebe, Edmund Matthews, Wm. Savage, Wm. S. Fitch, John Ames.\ Ephraim Gates,Jabin Wood,Moderators,Wm. Si Fitch, Clerk,State of New York, Oswego Co., ss*^*On this 4th day of November, 1829, personally appeared before me William S. Fitch, to me well known, who being duly sworn says that he acted as clerk of the within named meeting and that Ephraim Gates and Jabin Wood acted as Moderators of said meeting, being duly chosen, and that he saw the said Ephraim Gates and Jabin Wood sign their names to the proceedings of said meeting as moderators thereof, therefore be it recorded.
