For the past few weeks our woods have been vocal with the locust, (cicada septmede-cim) appearing in countless numbers through* out the entire country. The ground is per* forated with thousands of holes through which they have again made their appearance in this upper, breathing world after a lapse of so many years. They last appeared in thi3 section in May, 1838, seventeen years ago. Their next return will be in 1872, thus making a cycle of more than half an age, in which they are deprived of this world’s light.A considerable apprehension is felt that in depositing their eggs upon the fruit trees, many of our orchards may be destroyed, particularly such as have been planted upon ground cleared within the last seventeen teen years.— Corydon Argus.
