The brave old soldier of the Hermitage—he whose life fills one of the brightest pages of American history— the fearless, the undaunted conqueror on the field of battle—is no more! Previous accounts had prepared the American People to hear this sad in-tcliigcnce. His long and well-spent life in the defence of his country and her institutions, will never be forgotten by the friends of liberty throughout the world. His name will endure in after ages, when the calumnies of his enemies shall have died away before the withering hand of time.The following article from the Ev-ausville Journal gives all the particu-we have received concerning the melancholy event:Mr. E. H. Lewis, a passenger on board of the steamboat Dr. Watson, (which arrived here at one o’clock on yesterday) a citizen of Nashville, brings the melancholy intelligence of the death of Gen. Andrew Jackson, Ex-President of the United States. He expired on the 8th tost. at 6 o’clock, P. M. Mr. Lewis states that numbers of the citizens of Nashville repaired to the Hermitage on the receipt of the news, himself among the number, to look their last upon the old chief. The General was buried in the family vault long since prepared by himself, by the side of his wife, on Monday evening last*
