Twenty-eight local bowlers wus the top two finishers from last year’s meet, qualified for the Daily Herald Bowling Tournament which was com pleted Saturday night according to Jack Wadley, owner and manager of Jack and Jill Lanes in American Fork, host lanes for the annual event. The ladies portion will begin on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the best four of seven game, match play tournament which runs until Friday. The men will begin Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and will be conducted on exactly the same format as the women. The men's portion will be also completed Friday night. A tie developed in the men’s division for the final qualifying spot between Jay Young and Hal Throckmorton. A two-game roll-off will be held today to determine who qualifies for the tournament. Last Year’s winner Lois Gilling and runner-up Sandy Swenson automatically qualify for the tournament. Top qualifiers during the one week of qualification just completed were: JoAnn Richmond, 1151; Marion Searle, 1127; Donna Smith, 1082; Jewel Hutchison, 1072; Lois Hurst, 1061; Sue Taylor, 1053; Marie Martin, 1026; Kaye Barratt, 1008; Dottie Perrero, 1006; Ethyl Echo McDaniel, 999; Ida Scott, 990; Helen Richan, 989; Shauna Huff, 954; Kaye Church, 918. For the men, Ray Campbell and Mack Hall, the top two finishers in last year's event, automatically advance into the Tuesday's opening matches. Leading the qualifiers for the men were: Dennis Carlson, 1229; Pete Evans, 1210; George DeBell, 1188; Ron Maxey, 1175; Blaine Richan, 1168; Lee Hampton, 1146; Jack Wadley, 1144; Gary Warren, 1139; Ron Evans, 1134; Bus Halladay, 1129; Jerry Phillips, 1126; Shawn Brady, 1117; Kevin Hall, 1116; tie between Young and Throckmorton at 1115. Wadley estimated that approximately 55 men and 30 women attempted to qualify for the tournament. Pairings will be announced in Monday's paper.
