Mokena LionsPlan 4th Of JulyThe Mokena Lions Club will hold a gala four day Fourth of July celebration in Community Park on July 4, 5,6 and 7.Activities will include crowning of a queen, parades, ball games, entertainment for all ages, fireworks and awarding of a main prize.A parade will open thefestivities on July 4 at 1:30 p.m. with a waterball contestbetween the local and visiting fire departments at 2:30 p.m.A teen queen contest is now in progress and candidates running include Fran-cine Mansan, Dorothy Om-land and Pamela Strassen-burg who are students at Lincoln-Way high school. Francine and Pamela reside in Arbury Hills and Dorothy is a resident of the village of Mokena. Votes for the girls are gained thru the sale of tickets which may be purchased from Lion members or the queen candidates. The crowning of the queen will take place at 4 p.m. on the Fourth. The winner will receive a $100 clothing gift certificate with certificates in the denominations of $50 and $25 for the runner-ups.Carnival rides, booths and refreshments will be open to the public in the park during the four day affair.Other activities will include a teenage dance, auction sale, kiddy parade, ball games, fireworks and awarding of an automobile.
