It has been decided that a call shall be issued for 175,000 more troops. The Ladies Society of the Meth odist church met with Mrs. Wm. Schilling. The death of Stephen A. Doug las occurred Monday at his home in Chicago. A new legal firm has been form ed under the name of Lowry, Blake Johnson, Mon. M. Gillette, the renowned rope walker is announced for an exhibition in South Bend. Prof. Wheeler, teacher of the singing school, gave a concert in the Union school building. J. H. Schell, assumes editorial charge of The Democrat with this issue in which his salutatory ap pears. M. M. Galentine has bought the stock of goods of W. H. Lash Co., and advertises that they will be sold at cost. W. F. McCoy Bro. have sold their stock of groceries to Hub bell Kerstetter and will engage in other business. The Goshen band under the di rection of Prof. Lathrop is an ex cellent organization and a credit to the town. Jesse Fuson, town marshal, ad vertises that no persons will be allowed to place building material in the streets or alleys without the consent of the town board. John Robinson's International circus and menagerie is adver tised for Goshen for performances at 1 and 7 o‘clock on Thursday, June 13, 1861. The show comes from Warsaw and goes to Elkhart.
