Mr. and Mrs. Pratt ■ Leave for EuropeA great man once said, “The way to have friends is to be one.”An exemplification of the truth of this statement was lt;demonstrated Saturday evening ( when so many of the friends of Mr. and Mrs. Pratt gathered at the station to wish them bon voyage, renewed health and a safe return to home and friends. It is an undisputed .act that the latchstring of the Pratt home is out oftener than that of any other in Missouri Valley, and so it wasn’t considered unusual to see so many at the train to bid them adieus. They go first to Milwaukee, where’Mis? Verona has been attending college during the past year, and taking her they all go to Atlantic City, where Mr. Pratt attends the annual meeting of the Master Mechanics and Master Car Builders association?. They sail June 20 at noon on the Cretic and expect to be back by September 1st.It is not generally known that Mr. Pratt, in his official capacity as Master Mechanic of the Wyoming Division, cover-(i ing over 1600 miles of r.-ad, ij1 with headquarters here, has done more to bring to a final fruition that for which Missouri Valley has waited with bated breath for over thirty years, •namely, the permanent establishment of the N. W. R. R. .•.hops at this point.Mr. Pratt has written many letters with his own pen to con-| vince the directors and those in i authority that Missouri Valley j was the proper place for thej shops, and these same letters, have carried more weight, doubtless, than any other influence. Nor did he ever seek to stand in a false light, for he ever maintained that it was his loyalty to the N. W. R. R. rather than his love for this! town, that caused him to advo- j cate thus.Mr. Pratt has been the object of much contumely, heaped upon him by those not understanding his position, but he has always taken it good-naturedly and philosophically, well knowing that he would be understood some time and his many friends sincerely wish that the travel in foreign lands may result in the entire recovery of his health. “A Friend.”
