364 graduate from HowlandBy MARILYN PARISEHOWLAND-Howland High School held its 65th Annual Bac* calaureate-Commencement at Packard Music Hall Tuesday, June 4.An organ prelude began the evening played by Tim L. Elder, vocal music instructor at Howland.The processional “Pomp and Circumstance” by Edward Elgar and “March Processional” by Clare Grundman, was played by the Howland High School Band, as 364 Howland seniors walked down the aisle led by Jeff A. Albanese and Frida Alzamora.Rev. Thomas J. McCarthy of The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, said the invocation.“A Bayside Portrait” by Robert Sheldon was played by the Howland band.Rev. James K. Armstrong from the North-MarChurch of Christian and Missionary Alliance, gave the Baccalaureate Address entitled, “Where Do We Go From Here.”Linda Carol Lambert gave one of the honor orations entitled, “Well,Here We Are.” “Together As One” was the title of the second honor oration given by Jeffrey William Muscarella.“The Way We Were” was sung by Vivian Axiotis with Fred Belko, Jr., as accompanist. You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Rogers and Ham* merstein, was sung by Kenneth Bloom and accompanied by Tim Elder. “Theme from Mahogany” was sung by Teresa Mary-Angelina Nuzzi and accompanied by Tim Elder. All vocalists were graduating seniors.The Faculty Address was given by Bill Hart, a member of the Howland Classroom Teachers Association. He remarked how he probably had all of them at one time or another as a teacher of English, and wished them all the luck in the world.Robert Fillmore, principal of Howland High School presented the class of 1985 and John Martin, president of the Howland Local Board of Education made the presentation of the diplomas. Dr. James LaPolla and Sally Wehmer of the school board shook hands withthe graduates and gave them their diploma.The Benediction was given by Rev. Gerald L. Williams of the Bolindale Christian Church and former teacher at Howland High School.The Class Motto for the Class of 1985 was, “Even though we will grow far apart, we will always be close at heart,” and was written by one of the classmates, Kevin P. Shuttle.The Class Flower was the Red Rose which each of the girls carried as they came down the aisle. The Class Colors were Black and White and the girls wore white gowns and the boys wore black. Each had an orange and black tassel, the Howland colors.The administration includes: Herbert G. Thomas, County Superintendent; Nick G. Macris, Howland Superintendent; Robert F. Fillmore. Howland High School Princopal; William A. Paczak, Assistant Principal; Charles A. Hahn. Assistant Principal; David J. Ai'Hatton, Assistant Principal; and David N. Mock. Activities Director.The Howland Local Board of Education consists of: John J. Martin, President; John W Kurtz. Attorney at Law. VicePresident; James E. Herriman, James J. LaPolla, MD, Mrs. Sallv Wehmer, and Mrs. Lois M Herrmann, Treasurer.
