South Wilmington driver ticketed after accident No injuries were reported in two accidents investigated this weekend by the Grundy County Sheriff's Department. James Hawkins, 25, Knight St., South Wilmington, was ticketed for improper lane usage after an accident at 6:13 a.m. Friday. Grundy County Deputy Carl Luck reported Mary Mack, 24, 370 Illinois St., Coal City, was eastbound on Rice Rd., when Hankins, who was on Knight Rd., attempted to turn right to go west of Rice Rd. Deputy Luck reported Hankins, in making the turn, went into the eastbound lane of Rice Rd., and collided with the truck driven by Mrs. Mack After Impact Mrs. Mack's truck traveled 111 feet and went into the ditch on the north side of the road. Damage to the 1976 Chrysler driven by Hawkins was estimated at $2,000. Damage to the 1978 Chevrolet truck driven by Mrs. Mack was estimated at $500. There was no report of any damage to an empty grain wagon being pulled behind the truck. Hawkins posted his driver's license as bond and wa to appear in court June 22. A Mazon woman reported her car was damaged in a hit-and run accident which occurred at the Grundy County Fairgrounds Friday night. Nancy Mount, 21, 633 Jewett St., reported the accident to the Grundy County Sheriff's Department at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Grundy County Sheriff's Lt. Curt Leach said Miss Mount’s 1977 Pontiac was parked in the fairgrounds lot when an unknown vehicle backed into the left side. Damage to the car was estimated at $500. Girl complains after battery incident in park No complaint was signed after a battery incident was reported to Morris police Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Miss Debbie Zweers, 17, of 410 W. Washington St., told police at the Morris Police Department that a man hit her in the face at Stratton State Park. The license number given to police was registered to a vehicle owned by a leasing firm at Naperville. Because police thought that was an incorrect license plate number, the girl reportedly said she would go back to the park and double check. By 11 p.m. Saturday, Miss Zweers had not return to the police station, and nothing further about the incident was reported to police. Driver arrested after backing over gas pump A Morrisman was ticketed for driving on a revoked license Saturday at 3:15 p.m. after his vehicle backed over a gas pump at Andy’s Standard, 201 Division St. William R. Buckhoff, 42, of 110 E. Chapin St., posted a $100 cash bond on the ticket, issued by Morris Police Sgt. Dean Sager. Buckhoff is to appear in Grundy County Circuit Court July 6. Morris police said Buckhoff was backing his 1969 Ford pickup truck from inside the service station when he knocked down the gas pump. Buckhoff told police he could not see out the back because of a blind spot caused by a cover on the truck bed. No damage was reported to the pickup truck, but more than $100 damage was estimated for the gas pump Arrest Newark man for driving while intoxicated A Newark man was charged Saturday at 12:11 p.m. with driving while under the in fluence of liquor. Steve A. Szobar, 44, County Line Rd., Newark, was taken to Grundy County Jail after he was stopped by Morris police on Interstate 80. Morris policeman James Watson was first advised by a passing motorist that a car on Illinois 47 at U.S. 6 was swer ving into both lanes of traffic. After seeing the car on the Interstate 80 overpass, swer ving, speeding up and slowing down, Watson activated the squad car’s red lights. The driver of the vehicle then proceeded onto the eastbound ramp of the interstate. When the car was stopped, the driver exited the car and had to grab hold of the door to keep his balance, Policeman Watson reported. Watson said he asked Szobar if he had been drinking, and the man replied that he ‘“‘had a few.”’ Szobar started to fall forward toward the roadway and into oncoming traffic, Watson said, and was then charged with the liquor violation. Szobar is to appear in Grundy County Circuit Court June 22. Traffic stop leads to marijuana charge A traffic stop of a motorist obstructing traffic on North and Liberty Sts. Saturday at 9:24 p.m. lead to the arrest of a Morris youth for marijuana possession. Danny L. Horswill, 20, of 205 Susan Circle, was charged with possession of between 2.5 and 10 grams of marijuana. He was also charged with obstructing traffic and illegal tran sportation of open liquor. After posting a $50 cash bond, Horswill was scheduled to appear in Grundy County Circuit Court June 29. Morris Policeman S.D. Francois reported that he saw a station wagon westbound on Jackson at Wauponsee Sts. blocking traffic while the oc cupants talked with people in another car. After he stopped the stationwagon on Liberty St., the policeman said he smelled alcohol and noticied a wet spot on the floor in the front seat. When Francois asked the passenger to exit the vehicle, two open beers and one empty bottle were found in the car. A burned marijuana cigarette and road clip were found in the open ash tray, Policeman Francois reported. A further search of the vehicle revealed nine grams of marijuana in the glove compartment. The passenger, Timothy M. Brehm, 20, of 1580 W. Airport Rd., was cited for possession of open liquor. He posted his driver's license as bond. Brehm is also to appear in circuit court June 29. Marseilles man arrested for DWI A Marseilles man was charged with driving while intoxicated at 5:19 p.m. Saturday after his car was stopped at Illinois 47 and U.S. 6. Paul White, 26, was stopped by Grundy County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Wix, Morris police Sgt. Dean Sager and policeman Dennis Holbrook after the sheriff's department received a complaint. White, Sgt. Wix said, ap peared intoxicated after his vehicle was stopped. He posted $100 and his driver’s license as bond and was to appear in court June 29. Driver, 86, cited after accident An 86-year-old Morris man was ticketed for failure to stop or yield at an intersection Saturday at 2:39 p.m. after his car hit a car at Jefferson and Wauponsee Sts. Sigurd M. Thompson, 616 West Ave., was cited by Policeman James Watson in connection with the two-car accident. No one was reported injured in the collision. Police said Thompson was northbound on Wauponsee St. when he looked both ways on Jefferson St. Thompson said he did not see any oncoming traffic, so he pulled into the intersection. His 1973 Chevrolet then hit the right rear fender of an eastbound vehicle, driven by Miss Karen K. Charms, 22, of 616 Vine St. Her 1970 Pontiac was spun around to face west by the impact, police said. Thompson's car had more than $100 damage to the front end, police reported. It was towed from the scene of the accident to Boren's Ford. Damage to the Pontiac was estimated at more than $100. Thompson posted his driver’s license as bond on the ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Grundy County Circuit Court June 22. Morris man injured in fight today A Morris man was hospitalized early today after he was involved in a fist fight outside Saratoga Restaurant on Illinois 47 about 2:30 a.m. Donald Olson, 30, of 755 Douglas St., was taken to Morris Hospital by Morris Police Sgt. Max Babcock for treatment of facial cuts and bruises. No complaints were signed in connection with the incident, police said. Olson, held for observation, was in fair condition at 10:30 a.m. today An unidentified called notified police at 2:50 a.m. that two men were outside the restaurant and one of them was lying on the sidewalk. When police arrived, they found Olson bleeding from the face and mouth, and John Gordon, 28, Rte. 5, standing nearby. Gordon told police that the argument started at Brandt's Tavern across the street. While they were at the restaurant, they decided to “‘settle the argument outside,’’ Gordon told police. While Olson reportedly had Gordon pinned on the ground, Mrs. Judy Gordon kicked Olson in the head, police reported. A knife was found on the ground nearby, police said. Girl warned after three-car collision Morris police issued a warning citation to a rural Morris girl Friday at 7:05 p.m. after she ran through a stop sign on Wauponsee at Chapin Sts., causing a three-car collision. No one was reported injured. Miss Emily A. Trotter, 18, Rte. 5, DuPont Rd., told police that she was eastbound on Chapin St. when she turned to her brother David, 8, in the car. When her attention returned to the roadway, Miss Trotter said she realized that she'd gone through a stop sign. Her 1975 Oldsmobile then hit a northbound car driven by Miss Joan E. Smith, 20, Rte. 2, Holt Rd., Minooka, police said. A vehicle southbound on Wauponsee St., driven by Mrs. Shirley A. Gustafson, 24, of 1102 Wauponsee St., also collided with Miss Trotter’s car. Damage to the Oldsmobile was estimated at more than $100 to the front end and left side. The 1977 Ford driven by Miss Smith sustained more than an estimated $100 damage to the left rear fender. Mrs. Gustafson’s 1975 Chevrolet had less than $100 front end damage, police reported. Policeman James Watson issued Miss Trotter a warning ticket for disobeying a stop sign. Accident victim Thirteen-year-old Kenneth Rexroad, 7700 N. Ashley Rd., was listed in good condition today at St. Joseph Hospital, Joliet. He was hospitalized in the intensive car unit there following a one-car accident Thursday. Rexroad was a passenger in a car driven by his brother Robert, 17, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. The car reportedly veered off Ashley Rd., just south of U.S. 6, rammed through a fence and turned over. Robert Rexroad was treated at Morris Hospital and later released. Several people seen drinking in a vehicle near the Morris Fire Department were stopped by Morris police Sunday at 9:34 p.m. Five people were issued tickets for open liquor violations. Police Sgt. Harold Carlson said he stopped the vehicle in the 900 block of Wauponsee St. and found three cans and two bottles of beer in the car. The driver, Barry R. Bit terman, 30, 102 Mable Ct., was cited for illegal transportation of liquor. He posted a $35 cash bond on the ticket. Also charged with possession of open liquor were passengers David R. Savage, 19, 106 Mable Ct.; Terry A. Williams, 19, 303 Mabel Cr.; Troy Erickson, 15, Rte. 2, and Bill M. Bassett, 15, 101 Grace Dr. Williams posted his driver’s license, while the others posted $35 cash bonds. All five youths are scheduled to appear in Grundy County Circuit Court June 29.
