The Otey Battery was one of the best among many good companies that Rich mond sent forth in the cruel war it was composed of the very best material, and on many hanlongblt fells it reflected honor on the city and on itself. Yesterday the surviving members of the battery held their annual reunion at the Od Purp Horse Among those who were present were the following : West, George Watt Tylor, William J. Both the pen and the oration were able and eloquent, all justice cannot be done there in any rief abtract. The monument was erected by Mr. James Netherwood of Virginia granite, and was the subject of very general com mendation. Oney Battery is the first Richmond or ganization this to commemorate the memory of their heroic comrades, and It is hoped that its worthy example will he waralated VICTORAYS AMT) COMMENT The statue was unveiled by a Ute daughter of Major David N. Walker who is a leon niece of Captain Gaston Dey, the first captain of the battery. The monument, after it unveiling, was crowned Wit a wreath of fovere by Tit tle Gaston Otey Wilking, a grandson of Captain Otey Mr. John KK. Hooper contributed for the occasion a coatly and elegant design of a Hors f cauman, mointed on bretust works, [i was entirely appropriate and universally ailmanned. At the Pump House the claret punch was made in the immense punch bowl presented to the battery by Aaron Wilkes Post, G. AT, of Trenton, No J. The vailant boys in blue were often tnought of during the day. The veteran John Dabney regaled the boys on a number of new drinks during the day, and added to his already well wun laurels, Monte West, William SH. Stratton, Clit Bridges, and in fact all of the committee were unremitting in their efforts to please. Colonel Clarke, Gwathmey, Dan Ma honey, Savage, Sharp, and all the boys from a distance, received a leary vel com, Onslow Sims, Sandy Grant, Charles Spence, and others who were absent were not forgotten and their presence was wished for, Colonel Miller Owens, of New Orleans, aent a letter of regret, expressing the deepest love for the battery.
