Cononw*'* Inquest.—“A a inquest was held hc-r font mo, In Union townehlj, Vanderburgh countyi on the 6th inst., near the residence of Alexander Maddux* over the body of a negro roan, name! unknown, stout heavy build, not above 30 years! of age, and supposed to hare Wen drowned;—! deceased bad on a wockn drab pea jacket, dark I pants and heavy bool*. In bis pocket was found j a steel barred pocket book, containing one $5 btlllj Bank of Louisville; one f3 bill, Middle Bank of Tennessee, at Lebanon *, a ad S3 40 in silver; roa*king la nil S I! 40. The body alluded to is supposed to be that of a negro roar, named Bartlett, who belonged to Mr- John Stanley, of Henderson co., Kv% We understand that the deceased and another colored roan attempted to cross the river, opposite this place, in a t kiff, on Saturday night week; the rivet being very rough at the time, and the skiff a very frail thing, it capsized, and Bartlett Was drowned. As we alluded to Mr- C., two weeks since, in no very complimentary terms, wc take pleasure in recording his humane and praiseworthy conduct in this instance.
