pr- OBITUARY -Nicholas KologinskApril 1,1919-May 23,2010It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our uncle, great uncle, great great uncle and brother Nick Kologinski in the wee hours on May 23, 2010 at the Minnedosa District Hospital at the age of 91 years.Nick was born April 1, 1919 at Cooks Creek, MB to Katherine Ras-sewich and John Kologinski. Hewas raised on the family farm in the Ozerna District, and lived there all of his farming years.As a young man he went off to war joining the Princess Patricia Infantry and onto boarding the ship at Halifax. He went to Bermuda where he trained for three months, and then onto Normandy, France. When the war was over he came home and continued to farm, never wanting to talk about the war.Uncle Nick always had a good sense of humour and the ability to make everyone laugh. He was a kind, gentle man who became a master of crib. We seldom won, and have many fond memories of this game. He also enjoyed playing Bingo and listening to music. After farming he took up gardening and enjoyed fishing and visits from family and friends. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed hockey and baseball the most.He was predeceased by his parents,brothers; Tom, Victor, Michael, Steven, Peter and Bill, sister-in-law Zella, brothers-in-law; Mitcheal Gural, Nick Kozubniak,Nick Czaplynsky, Nick Skomor-owski. Surviving are his sisters; Mary Kuzubniak, Olive Skomor-owski, Helen Czaplynsky all of Winnipeg, Susan (Art) Beeston of California and Kathleen (Bill) Bachewich of Surrey, BC. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.He will be greatly missed by all friends and family that were touched by his kindred spirit for life.Prayers were held at Rae's Funeral Chapel, Shoal Lake on May 27, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service was held on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ozerna with Fr. Emil Kardasinec officiating. Interment followed in the parish cemetery with the Erickson Legion members performing the honour guard and Last Post. The pallbearers were Ernie Braschuk, Peter Dmytriw, Chris Kostesky, Julian Koversky, Leonard Macksymchuk and Chad Sulik. Honorary pallbearers were all in attendance. Crossbearer was Kristen Kologinski. Rae's Funeral Service of Shoal Lake and Erickson were in care of arrangements.VICHNAYA PAM'YAT- THANK YOU -KOLOGINSKI: We would like to take this moment to thank Fr. Emil Kardasinec for officiating at the prayers, funeral service and giving Uncle Nick his last anointing before his passing, and to Ernest Malchuk for being the cantor and Bill Macksymchuk for being the elder.Special thanks to the pallbearers and crossbearer. To the Ozerna ladies for the preparation and serving the lunch, thank you. Also to the Erickson Personal Care Home staff for the care given to Uncle Nick while he was a resident there. He always said he was fine and never wanted any special attention or to burden them in anyway; thanks to each of you. And to all who went to visit and take time to have a game of cribbage with him; be it at the farm or at a neighbours or the care home.To the Erickson Legion for representingthe Veterans and providing the Last Post, thank you so much for that and for your support. Uncle Nick was a proud veteran and we would like to acknowledge and thank him, the past veterans and the present servicemen and women for giving us the most precious gift that we all take for granted: Freedom.To all our family members, neighbours and friends, for the food brought or sent, the donations, blessings, cards of sympathy and support during the difficult time.To Rae's Funeral Service for their guidance at this difficult time and for taking care of the arrangements.
