Ray Coyle said the order was given yesterday for officers to use their shotguns on the dog because “it represents a danger to the community/'However, Coyle says, “there is absolutely no indication the dog is rabid. He has exhibited none of the characteristics of a dog infected with rabies and, as far as we know, he bites only when cornered/'One of those bitten was Modesto Animal Control Officer Ron Taylor. He and three sheriffs deputies and police officer cornered the dog at an alley fence at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and were — they thought — about to capture him when It lunged at and bit Taylor's arm.The 35-pound, 16-inch-lall bulldog reportedly has bitten three persons in the Robertson Road-Nian Way area.Troy Baker/13, may have had more confrontations with the marauding pit bull than anyone else. He has seen it every day since his first encounter early Tuesday and has been chased by it on three occasions.The first meeting was in his own backyard as he ventured out early Tuesday to feed his own dog, a female* and the pit bull “chased me into the house.
