He refused top talk concerning the death of his pml, Laula Novak, 48, father of six, who was shot in the neck while driving O'Neil home from a birthday party, at which Wyner flowed freely, Wednesday night at his home near Welty schoolhouse, between Justus and Wilmot. Deputy sheriffs, believing that O'Neil can tell what happened dur ing the horse and buggy ride to his home, grilled him, but without suc cess, ‘I have nothing to say, ’ way all the sheriffs could get from him. O'Neill was “very drunk’’ when he arrived to help Novak celebrate his birthday, members of the Novak family aard. And he suffered Thursday from the after effects to such an extent that sheriffs did not push their investigation. But Friday O’Neil appeared aso thered up and well, and the barrage of questioning was begun. After a session on the grill Friday morning, O'Neil was to be quizzed further later in the day, when sheriffs said they hoped to draw something from him. Novak, on the fatal ride, was shot through the back of the neck with a bullet fired from a .25 caliber pistol of Spanish make. In O'Neil's home sheriffs and Coroner’ T. C. McQuate found a pistol of that de actption which had been fired re cently, they said. Novak's body was found lying by the roadside 1,900 feet west of Mc Whinney's crossing, west of Justus, where O'Neill was employed by the B. O. railroad. Passing motor ists, who discovered the body, noti fied the conductor of a freight train standing nearby, and the conductor passed the word along to the next tower station and to county author ities.
