Prosecutor, sheriff silent on revelations By SHELLEY TERRY Staff Writer sterry @ starbeacon.com ASHTABULA — Despite conflicting reports, at least one agency has not for gotten the allegations of abuse involv ing the Apostolic Faith Church in Jefferson Township. Ashtabula County Children Services Board investigator Michael Rose said Thursday he’s conducting an ongoing investigation but he won't release any information because it could compro mise the investigation. “However, I feel it is important to understand that, even if an organiza tion is considered to be a cult, it does n't constitute a crime under the Ohio Revised Code,” he said. “It is only the actions of the organization that may violate criminal law.” Rose’s statement comes a day after Ashtabula Police Chief Ray Mattson said the investigation of physical and sexual abuse allegations involving the church is outside his department’s jurisdiction. Ashtabula police are investigating the murder of Carolyn Clark, who was beaten to death May 7 in her Park Avenue apartment. Police quickly charged Clark’s estranged husband, Ralph Clark, with the crime.
