Delphi Mayor Sam Deinert announced the appoint ment of Mr. Larry A. Ives to Chief of Police, during a press conference held Monday, June 8th, at city hall. Ives, a twenty year veteran of the Kokomo Police Department, worked as an investigator and as a shift supervisor. He also implemented and instructed the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program in Kokomo. The D.A.R.E. program, under Ives, was honored by the Governor's Community Awards Com mission as the outstanding substance abuse program in the State of Indiana in 1988. In addition to the extensive training he received as a police officer, Ives earned a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University in 1977 and a M.A. degree in Public Administration from Ball State in 1979. He is also active in his community and his church. Ives devotes time to local fundraisers and charities, and while an officer, he organized and sang in the Gospel group, “The Peacemakers”, a group of Christian police officers. His wife, Marlis, is employed as an area sales manager at Sears in Kokomo. They have five children and three grandchildren. Chief Ives and his wife are looking for ward to moving to Delphi and being an active part of the community.
