Many outstanding contributions were late the past year at Lower Merion in all dietds of sport. Perhaps the one that deserves the spotleht more than others was the state record set up by CHE Roberts in the 260-yol.low hhorches. Thas was home at State Col lege the latter partof May when the finest track athletes of the State gathered for their annual track carni val Due to the fine work of the boss representing Lower Meron and Norristown, District Poo again took first hoters, Lower Merton had quite mt succeess ful screen oon the emmders. The Ma roon athletes dropped but one im portant meet—the PLT. AL A. held at West Chester. Norristown nosed the locals out in the final event of the afternoon. The Suburbans, however, held two weeks later at Norristown were wed by the Main Liners, dis placing Norristeson for the first time in three years. In othis meet Clit? Robert was aeait headed for a new record in the hurdles when he tripped over the tin: hurdle and finished fifth. When he made the misstep he was a good six yards ahead of the field. It looked for a tune that this bit of bad luck would lose the meet, but the squad pulled together to pile up suffi cient points to take first honors. The borough has contributed more others from its district are: Elizabeth Allen, Jane Buechner, Mary RB. Carr, Marie L. Crehen, Marion Dougherty, Margaret Kane, Kather ine McFarland, Mary L. McAlliter, Eileen Meanimley, Marcella Manion, Virginia Scott, Grace Toebe, Ceetha Wright, Louise Zeibs, than their share of athletes to the star ranks at Lower Merion this year. Perhaps the outstanding members were Clarenee Griffis and Larry Davis of the basketball squad, Joe Dimidio of the football team and Bob Tyson of the baseball team. These lads were call stars on their respective teams. The uniiforms have all gone to the cleaners, the boys have made their plans for no summer's vacation and the coaches are looking forward to next year—looking over the roster of boys who will return in the hope that again the Maroon athletes will up hold the traditions of Lower Merion -long a leader in suburban high school competition, Hail Merion!
