which we learn that at Arcadia the saloon men are pursuing much the same course. Mayor Feenstra upon taking office was disposed to be lenient. The saloons had been running all day Sunday, and he ordered them to close at 1 o’clock. This they refused to do. The mayor was justly incensed, and he at once ordered every business house in the place closed on Sunday, and last Sunday the order was literally obeyed, Several merchants having public wells attached to their premises locked up the pump with a chain. Our correspondent declares that hundreds of people in to church had to drive arouud to find a drink of water for the wives and children. Many brought in produce and were compelled to tdke it home. The barber Bhops and meat .markets were also closed, Of course on the part of some the object was to make the mayor unpopular. But all this unreasonable inconvenience and annoyance comes from the ugliness and stupid hoggishness of a few saloon men. Operating in direct conflict with the laws of the State through the sufferance df the community, they brazenly refuse to recognize the slightest wishes of the community concerning the pence and quiet of the Sabbath. Mayor Feenstra should see that the saloons are closed Sundays, or if they defy him, he should close them permanently. Men who want the earth, all fenced in, and will not obey a slight municipal regulation, should have an officer with a search-warrant at their doors every hour in the day. There is not a saloon in Carroll county that can not be broken up in one day, and there need be no waiting for Todhunter or a District Court.
