Luling, a prominent planter of St. Charles porlBh. Tho room of tho overseer, in the basement of tha house, was entered by the thieves, who undoubtedly wore well posted, both as to the position of the furniture lu the room and the manner of entering. Tho door that was broken open Is a large double door with hooks in the middle; one of the aidee was pried open from the bottom, sufficiently to give passage to a forked stick, with which the hook was easily loosened. It was about a o'clock in Ihe morning, when the overseer awakened suddenly, and noticed some one fleeing Trom the room an he erang out of bea. He attempts pursuit, and hla ourcriee brought out the manager or the plantation, who was sleeping in a house some409 yards off. On examlnatloa. Itwae round that the nrmoir of the overseer had been opened, end the plantation money, amounting to wo. was gone, but strange to say. a gold watch lying on the mantel piece, the jewelry of the overseers wife, and almost an ccjual of money in bills and silver, belonging to the overseer, was untouched. The exam I nntf on of the case has been commenced by Parish Judge Augustin. The parties now under arrest are Joseph LatJolaie, alias Coon, Davis Price and Howard Hanks, all colored, and all employee on the LutingWe bad the ploasuro of meeting Judge Augustin yesterday, and he says that he will do tho utmost to ferret out end punish the guilty parties, and that the uu'horirieR will holp hint to their utmost.The trial creates gro»t excitement among the blacks, but the Judge Is oonfldont of exorcising hlB authority.
