Aware that lie had missed the train, he was aroused to the necessity of walking home, and started up the south track for Howells a little after 2 o’clock p. in. When near Donnell’s Crossing be heard a freight train behind him. Being startled by the same, he stepped over to the north track, thinking to escape it, but instead, putting himself right before it. He was struck by the locomotive, and fell to the left of the train, the wheels passing over his left foot and crushing it so that amputation will benecessary. Dr. Currie dressed the groaning man’s foot at the High am House, and made him as comfortable as possible.
