Auckland, 29th May, 1843. Ww: tae Unoversiexep, Ixmanitants oF AUCKLAND and ITs NEIensouRHOOD, have publicly assembled ourselves together for the purpose of paying a tribute of re spect to the Widow of the late Governor of New Zealand, on the eve of her depar ture from the Colony. Untertaining a high estimate of the advantages derived by this Settlement, by Mrs. Tlosson’s residence amongst us, we cannot allow her to leave New Zealand without receiving from us some Public acknowledgment of the common sentiment. Well knowing the important influence, under all circumstances, of the example of those in high places, and more especially in the early stages of Society in a new country. We cannot but deem it a matter of just consideration, that the chief place in Society in this infant Capital should, from the earliest period of its formation, have been filled by a Lady, who, both in public life, and in a private station, has so admir ably fulfilled the ‘various duties of social life, as to call forth a spontaneous expression of respect from a whole community. The regret which we cannot but feel on the occasion of Mrs. Thorsox’s departure from amongst us, would be greatly diminish ed, might we indulge the expectation that her absence will be but temporary, if after performing the duties which now call her to England, Mrs. Horson should again be drawn hither by the ties which must always connect her with New Zealand; her return would be welcomed with sincere and heart felt joy. We would conclude this expression of our feelings by assuring Mrs Horson, that, in leaving Auckland, She carries with her the sincere sympathy, the unfeigned respect, and the kindest wishes of the whole of its Inhabitants. HR. CRETNAY Has the pleasure to announce to his Friends and the Public, that it is his intention to prosecute the business of an AUCTIONEER, in addition to his present pursuit of Crsron Hovsr and Surpeixa Aceyr. The well known experience of H. R. The extensive patronage which Mr. Cret nay has enjoyed from the Shipping Interests, and the successful results which have hither to attended his efforts, will be his main re liance for future support.
