Kdward SmithEdward H. Smith, 73, of 331 S. May St., Joliet, died May 29 at St. Joseph Hospital. A lifetime Joliet resident, he was employed at U.S. Steel for 45 years until his retirement in 1970. He was a Veteran of World War I and a member of the Holy Family Society.Preceding him in death were his first wife, Josephine Baker; his parents, two brothers, Martin and John; and two sisters, Catherine Fleischman and Josephine Kemp.Survivors are his widow, the former Rose M. Riordan-Raker; four stepsons, Gene and James Raker, both of Joliet, Jack of Newport News, Va. and Ricky Raker of Tustin, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert (Judy) Takacs of College Station, Texas; two brothers, Fred and Louis Smith of Joliet; numerous nieces and nephews.Funeral services were held June 2 at 9 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home in Joliet and at 9:30 a.m. from St. Patrick’s Church. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery.
