Blais, police commissioner, started in the grocery business in this city. By strict attention to business arul,geniality of disposition Mr. Blais has become one of the merchant princes of CohoesBut he is not stuck up on that account, although he is high up in Co* hoes, when at home, living'as he does on Urant street. Last night he said to about ten of his friends: “Let us gather together at the cafe of Wilfred Tessier on White street and he will kill the fatted calf, or mortgage his business temporarily so as to be able to buy a few pounds of beef from the beef combine; and we will eat, drink and be merry for to-morrow we will have to attend to business again/’And they one and all accepted the invitation with pleasure, and did assemble at the cafe afore mentioned.Mine host Tessier was attired in a white necktie and a pleasant smile and looked well, as usual, and gave particular attention to the needs of Mr. Blais’guests.Beefsteaks, each large enough forfourteen John D. Rockefellers, wtjfreserved with and without mushrooms,%and with all the accessories to make them tempting, and then they disap-peared as rapidly as a rich relation when asked for a loan.Adolph Kahn was making a speech, as usual, whilq also in the act of eating, when about half a pound of steak stuck in his throat. By the united efforts of all present,tte .steak .washes-traeted froip Mr. Kahn’s throat with much difficulty* As he wiped flue tears from his eyes he called out: “Mr. Tes-isier, another steak, please. I cannot be choked off as easily as this/' And he wasn’t.So much beefsteak was eaten last flight that the local agents of the beef combine this morning raised the price | of beef an extra $1.00 a hundredweight on the plea of a shortage of beef.Mine Host Blais was in his element last night and gave interesting reminiscences of his experience inVCohoes.Former Alderman DussaUlt proposed the health of Host Blais and expressedthe hope that he would similarly cele-* %brate every year, and the company cho-roused: “So say we all of us so say we all/’ And the merry party broke up andeach went to their homes to suffer in-. - . * - - .digestion from overeating and consequent nighthiare dreams.
