Railroad Celebration*The Celebration of the opening of the L. U. M* Railroad from this city to Greens-burgh, came off on Monday last*Five trains left here on the arrival of the Forest Queen, with two thousand passengers. We have never witnessed a more enthusiastic crowd. People flocked from all the surrounding counties, and the way out the track was lined with delighted specta-tors.An immense multitude awaited the arrival of the trains at Greensburgh, and the good citizens there conducted the passengers to their houses where excellent fare awaited them. Squire Rryan, Mr. Hoard, Frank Stevens and Dr. Moody, we noticed were very active in attending to the comfort of the guests.We were much pleased losee thceffectthe road has had upon Greensburgh, Improvement is the watchword. Many old buildings are being removed from the public square, and fine edifices put in their places. Mr. Frank Stevens alone has put up several fine houses. He has expended 812,000 already in the building liue. Several towns : | have been laid off between this and Greens-burgh, and evidences of improvement mark the whole line. The land along the Toute is excellently adapted to small grain, and is the best gr3Sssoil in the West. Grazing is more profitable than it once was. Cattle bear a steadier and higher price. Our fanners are turning their attention to it, and in a few years we may well apply to our State the name now given to Tartarv, “the land of grass.”On Tuesday the trains brought in 2,500 people from Grocnsburg and the surrounding country; after partaking of dinner here they returned in the afternoon, highly gratified with the jollification, and the good feeling existing between the two places.The daily income of the road now averages two hundred dollars. An engine was shipped this week from this place for Indianapolis, to aid in laying track this war. The work is progressing from Shelbyville, both wajs, towards Indianapolis, and towards Grecncburgh. So from every indication we may shortly be gratified with an excursion to the citv of Railroads.—RcziaUr.
