Despite a language barrier and other challenges, Huang is graduating Sunday and plans to study pharmacology.Huang excelled at BHS after move from ChinaBy DINA MENDROSStaff WriterBIDDEFORD — YanlanHuang, known as Tracy to her friends, moved from southern China to the United States with her parents and her older sister in February 2010.“My family moved here because they wanted a better education for me,” she said, and they came to Biddeford to stay with relatives.Huang started her new life with a new experience: The flight over was her First plane ride.It was a frightening and exciting trip, said Huang, and once they had landed in theand a period of adjustment.Then there was the issue of learning a new language.“I learned English in China,” she said, but “I didn’t speak a lot.”In China, her family had their own house in the city of Jiangmen, in the Guangdong province. Here, they live with Huang’s aunt.In her former country, Huangs father worked for aAmerican, she says she likes living here. She’s made new friends, she speaks English fluently, and she’s made exceptional progress in school.Three years ago, Huang was a freshman at Biddeford HighSchool, with a limited course load.
