Manitoba and Mexican state of Nuevo Leon to promote trade, tour ism and educational opportunities Manitoba was the host of the 2006 North America's Super Corridor Co alition (NASCO) conference. The conference was a gathering of po litical and business leaders of three countries (Mexico, USA and Canada) to talk about a mid-western rade cor ridor benefiting all three countries. As minister of transportation and government services, I was a co-host for the event, along with my col league, Scott Smith, the minister of intergovernmental affairs and trade. It was a great event that captured the innovative spirit of our province. it was in showcase of what our prov ince is, and has to offer. Furthermore, it was a chance to have in-person con versations, about jar projects. Thus, great conversations were held with various delegates and concrete plans set forth. An example of one of the outcomes of this conference was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Province of Man itoba and the State of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The MOU was signed to build on growing cooperation across North America. The two-year agreement was signed by Premier Gary Doer of Manitoba and Gov. Gonzalez Pards of Nuevo Leon. “Lum pleased to be able today to follow up on initial discussions with Gov. Gonadlez Pards in 2005 and build upon our mutual strengths to maximize opportunities between Manitoba and the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico,” said Premier Doer, “Since that initial meeting, our rela tionship with Nuevo Leon has begun to develop significantly, he added. The governor of Nuevo Leon had the following words to offer in reaction to the MOU. “We will also strive to foster investments, cooperation in innovation and the development of new sectors through new mechanisms based on risk capital, and also expand commerce and fair trade between the two jurisdictions,” said Gay. Gonzilez Paras. The MOU formalizes a strategic rela tionship between Manitoba and Nuevo Leon and provides a framework of co-operative activities in a broad range of areas including: *trade promotion, *education and training, *tourism, and *agriculture and agribusiness. Under the MOU, the participants will focus their co-operative ef forts to explore business opportuni ties in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon and Winnipeg. The two parties will also undertake bilateral trade missions be tween the two cities. The agreement details a co-opera tive alliance between Manitob annd the state of Nueva Leon and calls for both levels of government to share heat practices in areas including cul ture, technology, agriculture and edu cation. Summer festivities Many communities celebrate the good weather that comes with sum mer with community festivities, pa rade and all. It is always well received by members of all ages. The first of these activities is happening this weekend.
