Capt. Darnell namedBlue Coat of YearCAPT. DARNELLCapt. Jack Darnell of 11282 Crest cl SW, Tuscarawas Township, a member of the Massillon Fire Department since 1959, is this year’s recipient of the Blue Coat Award presented by Massillon Knights of Columbus Council No. 554.The council presented him with a plaque in recognition of his investigative efforts as head of the Fire Prevention Bureau of the department, and his exemplary” family life and religious life, according to Fire Chief Michael Bednar.The council sought candidates from the Massillon Police and Fire departments, according toBednar.Other recipients of the award thus far are Bednar and the lateFrank Urwia, who lost Ms life together with two other MaasHton firemen In the La Catsiaa flee, Bednar said.Darnell was named a captain in 1974 and head of the Fire Prevention Bureau in 1975.A life long resident of the Massillon area, Darnell and his wife Angie are the parents of seven children, David, Timmy, Danny, Kathy, Diane, Julie and Jimmy, ail at home.
