HAMPSTEAD. — The thirtieth annual commencement exercises of the Hampstead High school were held in the school auditorium on Thursday evening. The program included, a processional with the school orchestra furnishing the music, directed by Mr. Kenneth Sampson. Several musical num bers were rendered by the Girls’ sextette, composed of Anita Rob erts, Jane Armacost, Lucille Talbert, Marlene Miller, Mary Kathryn Schaffer and Larue Lloyd. Misses Roberts and Armacost also sang a duet. The musical numbers were accompanied by Miss Helen Arnold, head of the music department. A piano solo was played by Jane Armacost. The salutatory address was given by Miss Alice Lang and the valedictory by Miss Betty Tracey. The commencement address was given by Dr. Lester A. Welliver, president of the Westminster Theo logical seminary. The presentation of diplomas was made by the sup erintendent of schools of Carroll county, Samuel M. Jenness. The principal of the school, Stephan A. Lerda, spoke to the graduates, made some announcements and the fol lowing awards, the D.A.R. Award and Certificate, for outstanding achievements during four years in high school, awarded to Janet Dell. Miss Betty Tracey was awarded the honor of having the highest schol astic standing in the graduating class. Certificates were presented to Alice Lang, Freida Bill and Betty Tracey, for perfect attendance for three years: Jane Armacost and Ernest Gustaitis for two years, and Janet Dell for one year. — The invocation and benediction were delivered by the Rev. Louis M. Young, pastor of St. John’s Meth odist church. Members of the grad uating class are: Jane Armacost, Janet Dell, Alice Lang, Reatha Myers, Freida Bill, Anita Roberts, Betty Tracey, Gladys Tracey, Cyn thia Vollman, Roger Beam, Samuel Bellusci, Olan Bollinger, Earle Clas, Richard Groomes, Ernest Gustaitis, Russell Krebs, Stuart Leister and Clyde Utz. The graduates were at tired in caps and gowns, the girls in white and the boys in blue, the school colors. The stage was arrang ed with a large basket of yellow rose buds as the central front dec oration. Other baskets of June roses were placed on either side and vases of roses were placed in each window of the auditorium which was filled to capacity with relatives and friends of the graduates, some of whom had come from some dis tance. S. Sgt. and Mrs. John E. Long announced the birth of a daughter, Joyce Virginia, at the Air Force Base hospital, Fort Bragg, N. C., on Tuesday evening. Mrs. Long is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ridgeley Harman, Hampstead, and Mr. Long is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll E. Long, near Grace, Bal timore county. _The annual Children’s Day ser vice of St. John's Methodist church will be presented in the church auditorium at 7:45 p. m., Sunday, Mrs. K. Earle Spahr is chairman of the program.
