Dawson made two attempts to reach the ferry with* a rowboat. Henry E. Kuphal worked ' h!a way along the cable to the boat,a distance of about 200 yards.After helping a woman to a more ; secure place, he attempted to work the boat towards shoe, but was pinned to the side of the boat by a floating log. At this point Charles Marshall, of Libby, a ranger in the employ of the Kootenai national forest, climbed upon the cable and worked jus wav over to the ferry boat. As he was trying to release Kuphal the cable broke,floating the ferry boat down stream.With one arm Marshall grabbed the woman and with the other clung to the floating ferry until the boat swung to the opposite shore, where both wero assisted to land.When the cable broke John Mul-Iinex and Theodore Wall, spectators, were fatally injured and Severn 1 other persons were hurt.
