Bates was nrrcstecJ by the police about three o'clock Tuesday morning as he was breaking into the-wholesale drug store of George A. Eddy. He had gained nn entrance into the cellar and was cutting his way through a sheet iron door leading to the main store room. He had an up-to-date set of burglar tools, including smokeless powder. Ilntes had been prominent in young people’s religious movements and especially Y. M. C. A. work, and the people are nstounded. He hod n position ns clerk and collector for the gas works and obtained the layout of cellars whilereading gas meters.
