Terrible Accident.—A Woman Killed bit the Cabs.—On Friday morning last, the wile of Mr. William i Curtin, trackmster, residing a few rod* west of the depot in this village, came to her death under the following distressing circumstances ; Between 7 and 8 o'clock, as Mrs. Curtin was about to ait down a j with her family at the breakfast table, shemissed from the house the youngest of her31 three children, a little boy, not quite two years of age. Hearing,.at the same time,;the noise made by the way freight which was backing down towards the depot on the switch, Mrs. tin, accompanied by1 her mother,, ran to the track and saw the child standing between tbe rails only a few feet from the approaching train. Seizing it in her arms she attempted to take it from the track, but was thrown down by a small dog which ran between her feet and tripped her. The train struck her and dragged her several rods, five cars passing over her, cutting off one of her legs above the knee, crushing the lower part of her body in a fearful manner, and bespattering tbe ties and rails with her blood. She lived only about half an hour after the accident, retaining full possession of her senses, and inquiring, with her last breath, if she had saved herchild. The child mom saved— but received%. ■some severe bruises about the head, and the great toe bn one of its feet was partially cut off by tbe car wheels. Doctor Anderson was j called to see the little sufferer, and amputated the toe at the first Joint. The child is do-^ ■mg well, now, and will probably recover. Mrs. | * Curtin was about thirty years old, and a devoted and exemplary wife and mother. Her [ t funeral was held on Sunday, and was largelyattended. 11
