One year later, triple murderer still at largeWINDSOR, N.C. (AP) — Karen Cecil says she’s confident that, one day, police will catch the man who killed her husband and two others and left them piled in a grocery store a year ago.Mrs. Cecil and her five children were among the 250 residents of this small Bertie County town who attended a memorial service Monday for the three people who were killed last June 6 at the Be-Lo supermarket. The service was held in the sunbaked concrete parking lot of the boarded-up store.“This is a very tricky one,” Mrs. Cecil said after hanging a wreath on the storefront. “He is someone’s son or someone’s friend and they need to turn him in. He ruined a lot of lives here. He took 24 years away from„ . Mme.The victims were Grover Lee “Bud” Cecil, 48, of Ayden, thestore manager; store clerk Joyce Cobum Reason, 37, of Windsor, and Johnnie Rankins Jr., 49, of Edenton. Rankins was a member of the cleaning crew that had started work after the store closed that Sunday evening.Three other members of the cleaning crew survived the attack. None of the survivors attended the service. Authorities said it was because they were afraid.The killer used a .45-caliber military style pistol and military ammunition, said Police Chief F.E. Bowen.When police and rescue crews arrived at the scene, Bowen said, they saw a row of bodies lying in pools of blood in an aisle. The killer had stacked the six people in piles of two before he started shooting and slashing. Some were tied with dog leashes from the store.
