Next time the City of Folsom needs some park land, it might have to look no further than the Folsom-CordovaSchool District, in light of an action taken Monday night by the City Council.The Council approved a “joint-use”agreement with the school district, which allows the City use of school facilities for recreational programs anduse of school land for constructingpark facilities.»The agreement is based on the existing agreement between Folsom-Cordova and the Rancho Cordova Recreation and Park District, which is widely regarded as a model forsimilar cooperative ventures.“It will permit the City to do what itdoes now,” City Administrator Jim Erickson told the Council Mondaynight, explaining the City already uses some school facilities. Theagreement will provide the legal framework for what currently is the practice.“In the long run,” Erickson continued, “It’s a very good idea.” It would eliminate duplication of facilities, hepointed out.The agreement gives the City the right to use existing school facilitieswhen classes or programs aren’t using them, as well as the right to construct improvements on the schoolland.The agreement also provides that the school district will maintain all landscaping, turf, bushes and the like,as well as its improvements, while theCity must maintain anything it puts in. Likewise, each agency must supervise its own events.
