The plants, owned by Mr. Byram Mansell, a Sydney artist and employee of the restaurant. was asked by the Prickly Pear Destruction Commissioner. Mr. Lee. to destroy his plants at the restaurant and at his home.Mr. Mansell is stated to have declared that he was ready to go to gaol rather than destroy the cactus. The matter was placed before the Minister for Lands. Mr. W. F. Sheahan. who decided to allow the plants to remain on certain conditions.The Prickly Pear must not be allowed to flower.
