The Buffaloes of Texas.It would be hard to give anything like an accurate statement of the number of buffaloes which roamedthe plains of Texas thirty years ago.It is claimed by old buffalo huntersthat to sav 100,000,000 head would%not he placing the number too high. They must have been plentiful, for in the one year of 1877 more than 5 00,000 buffalo hides were sold at Fort Griffin, and more than 3,500,-000 at Fort Concho. These two places were the principal markets for buffalo hides in Texas, but there were a half dozen other trading posts in the State, at each of which there wove marketed one million and more hides.
