Hon. J. H. Bothwell, in an In terview with a “‘Bazoo” Re porter, Graphically Des cribes His Visit to England and the Continent. Yesterday Mr. Bothwell arrived at his home from St. Louis, where he spent Friday, having reached there after a continuous journey from Lon don. He was found in his office in the afternoon, engaged in business matters, but consented to be inter viewed by the Bazoo representative who called upon him. In reply to inquiries from the reporter, Mr. Both well stated in substance as follows : “I left Sedalia April 19th, and I went directly through to Washington City. At Athens, Ohio, I was joined by A. D. aes and her two conser, a y and we ‘e spent two days very pleasantly at Washiall it rained much of a man. We met the senators from Missouri, and were deceived with great kindness by both of them. +ow Mr. Beat sat several other Missourinane, Mr. John Hannay. ‘On leaving Wash lington we spent a few hours at Wil mington, Del., with my cousins, Mr. and Mrs. John Bancroft, and spent two nights and a at Woodbury, N. J., with Colonel G. G. Green and family, who visited Mrs. Jaynes here about our ago. Two days were repent in New York City, and thes wel embarked on the steamer Majestic of the White Star line. We were fortu nate in our choice of steamer, and were favored with fine weather, ex cept that quite a gale visited us to wards the end of the “Trans-Atlantic travel in very sim ple, comfortable and safe now as com pared with twenty and forty years at, and has imp very much within the last ten years. The passage is made now from port to port in seven days, and from land to land within six days Every regard for safety and comfort and pleas ue 8ome by the rival — ip lines, and to any person seeking change and rest,the trip across the Atlantic is most enjoyable if they can be free from sea-sickness, the bane of so many ocean-travelers. I left Sedalia quite worn out with long application to busi pees, and had not been in health dinahild Hoptonic very glast to lor tt peereests my beat and for a very trip in both my angel, emai at all, and eal] favored with a good appetite, and was able to sleep with a great deal of en joyment. “We reached Liverpool on Wed nesday, May 4th, and remained there about twenty-four hours. We then went to the old city of Chester, which lies near the hills of Wales, and about forty minutes ride by rail from Liver pool. This is one of the oldest places in England, and is very interesting eee “ her walls, cattle, went J etc, of great antiquity, all ! From Chester we was to “London in a very interesting oil on account of its commercial del iance as the trade center of the world, and sn a place of great historic inter est; and yet, aside from its public buildings and palaces, and some pices of special interest, it does not com pare with some of our best American cities, in its extent and com merce.uch of it is old, and very few of the buildings are either fine or impressive in any way, but with its five millions of population it is a place that presented thousand varying scenes of interest to the traveler. I could not undertake to give even a suggestion of what I saw, or of the impressions made on me by it all, I was favored with an opportunity to at tend the House of Commons, and to listen to a debate participated in by many of the leading members. Of course, I visited Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s cathedral, the tower and many other famous places of interest. “In order to visit the Hon. Edwin H. Terrell, minister of the United States at the court of Belgians, I went to Brussels, which reached on the 18th of May, spending a few days in Holand at An . Mr. Terrell is from San Antonio, Texas, but was reared in the State of Indiana, and was a friend of my college days. He married in Sedalia about 1574. His wife was Mrs Maverick, of San Antonio, Texas, who was then living with her brother on Broadway in this city. Unfortunately Mrs. Terrell died in about sixteen months ago.
