Cross appointed secretary.The chairman briefly explained the object* of the meeting to be to express the scnii-j merits of those outside of the county, in n connection with the recent troubles in Wil- j lt;| kimou county.A committee uu resolution* being appointed, through their cbairmaii, Hr. Roberta, reported the fallowing preamble and resolutions, which were unanimously adopted :The committee appointed by the meeting of the citizens of Amite county, Mias., and the adjacent portion* of Louisiana, jwviu-bled in WcKHiville on returning from sup-preying the riot* among the blacks, reportthe following 1'ream bit* and Kc*s.»luuon»: Whereas, The foul nttiissiiuitimiofan innocent white man by an organised, anucd baud of negroes occurred in our midst 011 | fhursdav night, the llih inst., and, on re-pea ted attempts to arrest the murderers 1 some 25 in number) our men have been repeatedly and continuously fired upon by ditlerent bodies of regularly organized negro companies; andW11 erea-s We have now (after seven day* spent in such attempts 011 our part to arrest the murderers and their supporter*) every reason to believe that the colored people have disbanded their organizations and are returning to their fieaoeful labor* and are wilLing.to permit the usual enforcement of the ordinary legal processes to secure the arrest juid punishment of all the guilty parties; therefore, be itThat we hereby acknowledge with becoming gratitude to an overrating Providence, that in all our trouble 110 oneof our men lias received any personal injury whatever.lieAolvrd^ That wo hereby express our cnrueHt disapprobation of tiny spirit or act s of Lawlessness that may have been exhibited by any of our men during their protracted service as a posSee, rendering assistance to the Sheriil lt;»f Wilkinson county, and that we hereby request the captain* of the different squads composing our command, 10 set* that all horses pressed into temporary use to suj*-ply the place of broken down animals lie at once returned to the Sheriff of Wilkinson county for restoration to their projicr own errand that upon any failure to do so at once, immediate legal process shall be instituted to bring to civil trial and punishment such offenders./iVWm/, Tha* we tender to the Sher i if of Wilkinson county, Wm.
