Buddy Cagle, of Tulsa, Okla., and Van Johnson, formerly of Anaheim, Cal. but now riding out of Bally,Pa., were among the latest to submit entries for the 100-mile National championship scheduled for the Langhorne Speedway, Sunday, June 14. Cagle, a midget auto pilot of National reputation, will be pilot ing the John Zink Special in the annual classic which features the Indianapolis cars and drivers. The Oklahoma speedster has been one of the top small car drivers since 1948. Last season he finished fifth in USAC National midget auto racing standings. The 30-year old Cagle will be making his initial start at Langhorne .Johnson is no stranger to the racing rotary in the eastern area. Per the past two seasons he inished second to Johnny Thom son in the USAC eastern cham pionship standings. In 1957 the fenior Californian won the 50-lap sprint car event at the Langhorne Speedway and that same season he also won the USAC sanctioned event at Williams Grove, Pa. The 32-year old will be behind the wheel of the Ray Brady Special. Brady, of nearby Norris town, Pa., is the builder of top racing equipment. Johnson com menced driving stock on the West Coast in 1952 and after considera ble success in that division he moved into the sprint and big car field. He likes the dirt and as a result figures to give the keen field a race for the checkered bunting. In addition to Johnson, so far two other top drivers from the Keystone State have submitted entries for the annual champion ship featuring the Indianapolis cars and stars, Johnny Thomson, pole man in the classic and third finisher in the Memorial Day event, also Eddie Sachs, next to Thomson on the front row at the Hoosier strip and winner of the century grind at the ‘Horne fast season.
