BUFFALO — (UP) — A field of 67 golfers, representing four states and Canada, starts play today in the 54hole Hale America section al golf tournament at the Park Country Club in Suburban Wil liamsville. Linksmen from New York, Penn sylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and in Province of Ontario vie for sev en qualifying berths and the right to compete in Hale American fin als at Chicago, June 18-21. Participants in the medal event, one of 11 regionals in country, in clude Sam Parks, Jr., Pittsburgh, 1935 national open champion; Tom Creavy, Albany, former PGA cham pion; and Frankie Commisso, Ro chester, winner for the last four years of the Western New York pro title. The golfers play single 18-hole round today and two 18-hole rounds tomorrow. An added attraction is the ap pearance of National Open Cham pion Craig Wood; Ben Hogan, leading money winner among tour ing professionals, and Horton Smith, St. Paul, open title holder. Already eligible for the Chicago tournament, they will play only exhibition golf. Proceeds from the qualifier will go to the USC and Navy Relief.
