VOLUME 45 NUMBER 23Mrs. F. W. Swale In Deaths SleepFredericksburg Woman Mourned by Entire CommunityRelatives and friends are mourning today because of the passing of a woman, greatly loved. On Wednesday night shortly before the midnight hour, the soul of this splendid wife, mother, sister and friend winged its way to realms eternal.Orpha Adele Famum was the daughter of William and Laura Burt Farnum, Her coming to bless their home was on August 5th, I860, at Marengo, Illinois. The Farnum family later chose Iowa as their home and here their daughter grew to womanhood. Her marriage to F. W. Swale was an event of December 7th, 1881 at Parkersburg, Iowa. For years Mr. and Mrs. Swale lived on their farm south of Fredericksburg and in 1913 built a fine commodius home insupporter of the local Baptist Church in all its varied activities.One looks back upon the unusual charm, poise, dignity, wisdom and gift of friendship which were her inherent grace, of her ability to make of her home, the haven of rest for her husband and children and their children, a mecca for friends and neighbors. One remembers her untiring efforts to carry on the wortb while things of life, during her long months of invalidism. Her cheerful acceptance of the sorrows and burdens of life of illness, serves to emphasize her abiding faith in the Saviour to whom she gave steadfast allegiance.One of her most outstanding characteristics was her cheerfulness her bright sunny nature. Friends burdened with sorrow and care, came away from her radiant presence,town, which continued to be their cheered, encouraged to take up withplace of residence throughout the years. About five years ago Mrs. Swale’s health began to fail and, all that modern medical sciences and loving, tender care could do, was done to comfort and assuage the ravages of disease. During this entire period, Mrs. Swale maintained her serene faith in the Master, upon whom she leaned for divine help. Surviving, and deeply mourning the transition of this loved, and loving woman are the husband, whose bereavement in this declining years is indeed great, two children who blessed the home share in the great sorrow. They are Clyde J. Swale, Bemidji, Minnesota, and Mu, (Jertrude Hicks, Fredericksburg, whose tender, solicitous care* and devotion to her mother during the closing months of her life was most noteworthy. Three grand daughters, knew the loving ministrations of the deceased, whose place intheir lives was similiar to that of a mother, Mrs. Leone Swale Dah! of Chico, California, Mrs. Phyllis Swale Stock, San Francisco and Miss Lila Hicks, Fredericksburg, remembering today the grandmother who cared for them, advised them and loved them as though they were her own children,Clyde J. Swa'e Jr., Bemidji, Minnesota, the only grandson in the Swale family has lost a valued and devoted friend. Of her immediate familyrenewed vigor the problems of life. One can visualize her faith in these lines.“My God, I do not ask,My cross to understand, my way to see,But in the darkness, just to feel Thy hand, and Follow Thee”And now, as we say farewell today to the earthly remains of one 'we were priveleged to call “Friend” may we not find comfort in the words of the poet Whittier who so beautifully expresses his belief “Yet Love will dream, and Faith will trust.(Since he who knows our needs is just)That somehow, somewhere, meet we must.The truth to flesh and sense unknown,That Life is ever lord of Death, And Love can never lose its own,” On Saturday afternoon, June, whenall Nature gave its lovjiest blossomsand choicest gifts of Spring, friends of Mrs. Swale gathered at her late home, to join with the family in listening to words of comfort from her pastor, the Rev. Carl J. Spieker. Music was provided by the Mmes. H. S. Kerssen, Carl J. Spieker and Earl March. Then all that was mortal was taken to Rose Hill Cemtery, close friends and neighbors performing this last sad service. They were A. E.other than the above, Mrs. Swale is I Ellison, Bert Dayton, H. S. Kerssen,rirvived by one brother, Frank Farnum, Friendship, Wisconsin, and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Richardson, Eagleville, Missouri, and Mrs. Helen Monroe, Independence, Iowa. There are also two great grandsons, Richard and James Dahl, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Dahl, Chico, California.Mrs. Swale was deeply religious ard followed her concepts of Christ ed his teaching to the last. Her chnrch membership was highly prized in the United Brethern Church at Finite! Chapel, south of Fredericksburg, but since her residence in town she has been, a devoted and consistentFred Chase, Herman Niewohner and Elam Benner.There she lies among friends gone before, there to await the final summons to the land of Eternal life.
