r— ...... - »w —......[From the Cincinnati Commercial of the 4th ]Yesterday mormog, about half-past 7 o’clock, Joseph Se*rs, an elderly farmer, residing about half a mile below Loveland, was attacked while at work hoeing in his corn field. The party making the attack was entirely divested of his clothing, and approached Mr. Sears with a large stone in each hand, threatening to kill him. Mr. Sears, finding that he could not escape, struck the individual in the head .with his hoe. His son, who was working in the same field, came to his assistance, and knocked him down with his hoe. From indications they supposed they had killed the man, and so reported to their next neighbor; but, on visiting the spot, the man had disappeared. The neighbors then turned out to search for the wild man, and after tracking him by the blood for some distance, came across him in a ravine. He proved to be a blacksmith by the name of Luther Sel-vige, a resident of Symmes. His wounds received in the encounter with the Sears are quite dangerous, consisting of three cuts on the head and one on the right arm. llis recovery is considered doubtful. Sel-vige has been a sufferer from fits for years past, but had always been considered harmless until now. 01 course no blame can be attached to the Sears. They did not kuow the individual, and feel sorry that they were compelled to strike him. ,
