[For the Weekly Citizen.]WHICH ?Mr. Editor:—I notice our goodfriends of the temperance persausiou rejoice with exceeding great joy over the fact that George Glass failed to obtain a permit to retail liquors. So far so good. But in their rejoicing will they ponder a very simple question, plainly worded, namely:Wherein have they gained a victory? Which would have been the better course: to have granted Glass the permit, (which he sought under every requirement of a very strict law,) and have thus held him in check, or confer upon him, which they have done, the privilege of sell iDg more whisky, which he is doing, than before. He is selling under a power which no Baxter law can override. He is a ward of the Government. Which is best—a free and independent trade in whisky, or the privilege, under restriction, of retailing a glass of beer or ale?
