Calt.| loving New York AND New OnLEANS Circus.—The New York and New Or leans Circus Troupe arrived in Vir ginia City at about 9 o'clock this morn ing. This forenoon they treated the residents of the city to a grand tri umphal procession. ‘The band wagon was drawn by a team of ten dromeda ries, following which were open carri ages, containing lions, tigers, leopards, etc. The next in order was a magnifi cent cavalcade of ladies and gentle men, mounted on superb steeds, together with children seated on di minutive ponies. ‘The hippodrome and menagerie form unquestionably the largest and finest show that ever visited the Pacific coast. The place selected for the exposition to take place was the baseball grounds near the Nevada Brewery. An immense crowd of people attended the circus this afternoon, ‘no mammoth tents were required for the exposition. ‘The menagerie appeared to contain more animals than Noah had with him in the ark. ‘The equestrian and acro batic performances in the circus pavill ion were superlatively good. ‘The Company will give another entertain ment this evening, commencing at 8 o'clock. A Goop Snowre.—The Figaro of San Francisco has the following under the heading of ** Mrs. Bowers in Vir ginia City: ‘We have received through J. H. The Eversanr Has Anniver.—The elephant belonging to the menagerie portion of the New York and New Or leans Circus arrived in Virginia City from Reno about nine o'clock this morning. ‘The animal is about half grown, and is very intelligent and do cile. He breakfasted on crushed su gar at the Clipper Gap stables, North C street. The way he went down into the boys’ pockets for peanuts and other goodies was a caution. After resting awhile he took up his line of march for the circus ground, on the Virginia baseball lot, accompanied by a large crowd of children and Piutes. Han nibal, Pompey, Scipio Africanus, or whatever other name he saw fit to be called by, was a good traveler, and while passing along the street picked up his feet as gingerly as a school boy. A Porviar Practor Resort.—The Sacramento Saloon, corner of D and Union streets, has undergone a won derful metamorphosis in the line of painting, papering, etc. Fred Bierke, the popular proprietor, has fitted it up in elegant style, and is now pre ved to receive his friends. Scnoo. Census.—We understand that Professor Janes has nearly com pleted the enrollment of the names of the children belonging in Gold Hill, between the ages of six and 18 years. ‘The number will not dilfer greatly from last year’s census.
