Leon Mitschke, 25, Jailed In StabbingDeath Of Max Mitschke Near CarmineLeon Walter Mitschke, Jr., 25, of the Sandtown Community near Carmine, accused slayer of Max A Mitschke, 58, of Giddings and the Sandtown Community, was arrested at his home Sunday night after a cat - and - mouse stake -out involving area police.Later a $10,000 bond was posted in Justice of the Peace F. Bryan’s court in Brenham The weekend long search for the suspect ended at 6:15 p.m. Sunday when Washington County Deputy Sheriff El wood Goldberg used tear gas to force Mitschke from his trailer home in the Sandtown Community.According to Goldberg, police watched the Mitschke home Friday and Saturday nights from positions in the surrounding woods.Previously, Goldberg said, objects that had been deliberately set up around thf house were noticed to have been moved Others living at the home, including the deceased man’s widow and three grandsons, have not returned to the trailer since the murder, Goldberg reported Arriving at the house Sunday, Goldberg noted other activity and heard a radio playing from within He called for the accused Mitschke to come out, but the suspect, already charged with the killing, failed to respond Goldberg retreated, positioned his car to observe the entrance of the trailer home, and radioed for assistance.Within approximately 90 minutes, county officers from Washington and surrounding area counties arrived at the address, bringing scent dogs in case Mitschke fled into the woods.After calling to the suspect “five or six times,” and receiving no reply, Goldberg then crawled to the entrance of the homestead and threw a tear gas grenade Mitschke was forced out.No gunshots were fired in the arrest, but police quoted Mitschke as saying, “I wanted to shoot it out and be killed over this, but the tear gas changed my mind.”The accused Mitschke is being held in Washington County Jail in Brenham.Fifty - eight year - old Max A.
