Texas State University To Get New BuildingHOUSTON. Texas:—Final plans and specifications for an Administration and Classroom building and a University Auditorium were approved by the board of directors of the Texas State University for Negroes at its May meeting, according to a recent announcement by John H. Robertson, executive assistant to the board.Mr. Robertson also announced that the board expects to let the contract on these two buildings at its regular meeting June 8. In theMay meeting, the advertisementfor bids was authorized, with sealed bids to be received until June 7.Preliminary plans for the two buildings, estimated to cost about §2.000,000, were approved by the board of directors in November, 1947. In December, 1947, Craig F. Cullinan, chairman of the board.announced that the building program' would be completed within two years. Cullinan said that it was hoped that the buildings would be completed and ready for use with the coming of the 1949-50 session of the University.The plans of the two buildings, drawn by Lamar Q. Cato, Houstonarchitect, provide for business and administrative offices, the main library, the Law School, with its special library, and a large numberof classrooms of various sizes in the Administration and ClassroomBuilding.The plans call for the buildings to be constructed of reinforced concrete and steel, faced with Texas limestone. They will harmonize with the Fairchild Memorial Building now on the west end of the campus.
