Touch of South Sea Isles Given Venice Beach Through HutsThere is a little touch of the South Sea Isles on the beach at Venice. That the beach may take on more of the holiday spirit, there has been erected aSouth Seas refreshment building, thatched with palms, quite in keeping with the tropical setting here. One Tom Swales, famed for putting the extra palatable touches into a picnic lunch, has charge of the refreshments. And on the beach are to be ten or twenty little South Sea huts, built in the Pullman effect, where groups of four or so can have their lunch, or play cards. These will be lighted at night. For the night bathing, which is so soothing and satisfying in the warm summer evenings, the Venice Company is placing a searchlight to play on the beach and waters at the point where the diving raft has been anchored. The Gulf at Venice will be a place of great activity during the coming summer, especially when the moon adds its romance to the beauty of the beach. Two lifesaving craft are being brought from Punta Gorda to be in service at the beach. These are the craft, with two parallel cigar-shaped hollow tanks, with a rower’s seat suspended betweenthem. They cannot be sunk or overturned. There will be life-guards on duty and a class of Red Cross guards, serving as volunteers,, in constant training at work. Already, the mainland beacon at .Venice is attracting thousands of people in automobiles from considerable distances. Part of the planning at the beach is to create parking space for 400 automobiles.■i
