Paul E. Wirt, Bloomsburg, wins a Million Dollar Lawsuit. Paul E. Wirt, Esq., of Bloomsburg, has won his suit against certain New York parties for infringement upon his fountain pen patent. The question at issue was the right to use the capillary feed for the fountain pen which would feed ink regular ly, without skipping and without blotting. With it the ink is fed so satisfactorily that, as it appeared in evidence in the case, Mr. Wirt alone had at the time his testimony was given sold over 350,000 of these pens in the United States. He says that the number sold up to this date is nearly, if not quite, half million ; more than have ever been sold of all other fountain pens since the world began. The patent for this feed is estimated to be worth anywhere from $500,000 to $1,500,000. The decision of Judge Coxe sustains Mr. Wirt’s right to the patent in every particular, and gives him the control of the fountain pen business in the United States for the next twelve years or more, as long as his patent lasts. Five years ago Mr. Wirt was a poor man, today he is well on the road to wealth. Various other suits involving the same patent, are pending, among others one against the firm of Postmaster General, John Wanamaker, but the decision just rendered in this quit will practically be decisive.
